Flowers are an essential part of the wedding day. Bouquets are held by the bride and her party, worn by the attendants, and are presented on tables and altars. I have known couples to choose the flowers based on the meaning of the bud, the season of the wedding, and the color of the dresses and theme. Brides and Grooms want live flowers for the wedding day, which adds substantially to the vibrancy and fragrant nuptial energy. Once the ceremony and reception have passed, the bouquets of flowers will naturally last a few days and are remembered in pictures and memories.
I discovered Everlasting Bouquets hand made by Susan Swanson of The Green Door on Main Street in East Greenwich. Susan creates “everlasting replicas of the bridal bouquets or centerpieces”. Susan will use containers from the wedding itself, family heirlooms or containers from her own store to hold her bouquets. The prices for these arrangements are dependent on the size of the bouquet and whether or not the couple will purchase a container from The Green Door. Susan suggests that the couple or gift-giver call her for a consultation.
Susan’s own daughter, Lily, was married in February of 2012. Susan looked at the picture of Lily with her own bouquet and designed a silk arrangement that Lily now presents in her own home.
